More than 500,000 Covid-19 doses given yesterday

MALAYSIA administered 514,674 vaccine doses as part of the national Covid-19 immunisation programme yesterday, Health Minister Dr Adham Baba said today.

The latest daily vaccination number is back to meeting the target of at least 500,000 doses a day, after failing to do so for the past three days. 

Of yesterday’s figure, 220,839 were first doses, while 293,835 received their second dose, he said.

“The total administration of the Covid-19 vaccine as of yesterday was 23,161,255 doses,” Adham tweeted, citing data from the Covid-19 immunisation task force.

“In total, 15,162,424 people have received the first dose and 7,998,831 people received a second dose.”

The government aims to vaccinate the entire adult population by October.

The Klang Valley is leading with the number of total first doses administered at 6,104,544, followed by Sarawak (1,747,510), Johor (1,290,734) and Sabah (1,010,275).

The other states reported fewer than 1 million jabs delivered.

The Klang Valley is also the region to have administered most second doses (2,807,441), followed by Sarawak (1,433,592), Johor (515,916) and Perak (514,718).

Other state have yet to record 500,000 vaccinated people.

Currently, the Klang Valley has a walk-in vaccination programme, only for residents without prior appointments, which will run until August 22.

Malaysia logged an all-time high of 20,596 Covid-19 cases yesterday. The country’s current infection rate (R) was 1.07. – August 6, 2021.
