Klang Valley Covid hospital admissions up 33% in last two weeks

THE number of Covid-19 patients admitted to hospitals in the Klang Valley went up by 33% in the past two weeks, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today. 

He said on average, 1,000 patients were admitted in hospitals in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. 

“There are now 6,427 patients in the hospitals while 2,685 are being treated in quarantine centres. A total of 659 patients are in the intensive care unit,” he wrote on Facebook

“The Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre Hospital System also shows a large number of patients awaiting treatment at the emergency and trauma centres.”

Noor Hisham said to deal with the influx of new patients, the Greater Klang Valley Special Task Force has set up a field hospital in the compound of Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital and added beds in Selayang and Serdang hospitals. 

He said in the last two weeks, 2,884 beds have been added. 

“At the same time, the capacity at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang quarantine centre has been increased,” he added.

There are currently five hospitals in the Klang Valley that have been converted into full Covid-19 hospitals. They are Hospital Sungai Buloh, Hospital Selayang, Hospital Ampang, Hospital Serdang and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Children’s Specialist Hospital. 

In the last 24 hours, Malaysia reported 20,596 fresh Covid-19 cases, a new record. 

Selangor and Kuala Lumpur made up more than half the number with 8,549 and 2,163 cases respectively. Putrajaya reported 50 infections. – August 5, 2021.
