PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said she will defend the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat, following claims that her daughter, Nurul Izzah Anwar, would stand in the constituency.

I will defend my seat. Changes might happen, but at the moment, I’ll defend my seat,” she said during a Facebook Live session with The Malaysian Insight today.

A Malaysiakini report last year, citing PKR sources, said Nurul Izzah, who is Lembah Pantai MP, would be fielded in Permatang Pauh, while Dr Wan Azizah would contest a seat in the Klang Valley in the 14th general election.

The report said Nurul Izzah would not defend the Lembah Pantai seat, which she has held since 2008, as she claimed that an aggressive manipulation of voters’ demographics had taken place there.

In GE13, she defeated Barisan Nasional candidate Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin with a slight majority of 1,874 votes.

The report also cited PKR sources as saying Dr Wan Azizah was more likely to contest in the Klang Valley due to logistics, and that she might be a candidate for either the Pandan or Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seat.

Meanwhile, PKR communications chief Fahmi Fadzil has dismissed claims that he would stand in Lembah Pantai.

The Malay Mail reported Fahmi as saying the party had yet to make an official announcement on its candidates for any seats, and that negotiations between Pakatan Harapan component parties had yet to be concluded. – January 18, 2018.
