THERE will be consequences for Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob who went against the party and appeared with Muhyiddin Yassin during the live telecast of the prime minister’s special address earlier today, said party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Zahid said Ismail Sabri had agreed with the Umno Supreme Council’s decision to withdraw support from Perikatan Nasional (PN) on Tuesday, but in making an appearance at the special address today, he was not supporting the party’s decision.

“We will act according to the party constitution. There will be consequences of his appearance, where he is not supporting the party’s decision made at the meeting yesterday,” the Bagan Datuk MP told The Vibes.

“I’ll leave it to the disciplinary board to review this matter.”

In a statement released earlier today, Zahid had said he had submitted another list of statutory declarations (SD) to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to prove that more than eight Members of Parliament have pulled support for the prime minister and PN.

“Today I submitted a letter to the Agong to present additional statutory declarations as a follow up to my previous letter,” Zahid said in the statement.

He did not specify the additional number, but said more MPs sided with him in writing since the Umno Supreme Council announced yesterday that it had “enough” MPs who have lost confidence in the current government.

He said the government should call a special Parliament sitting for Muhyiddin to test his majority instead of waiting until next month.

Muhyiddin earlier today said in a special live telecast that he would not resign but would hold a confidence vote when Parliament meets next month to clear doubts about his legitimacy as prime minister.

He has since been bombarded with calls to hold the vote in an emergency sitting next week, rather than wait till next month. – August 4, 2021.

  • Why must an MP have to tow the party lines? This is an old regime and an orthodox one where an elected MP must abide by a decision reach by a group of people. An elected MP must has his mind and rationale to make the final call as that call do have an impact to his constituency at large rather then to a group of people. Now why must an elected MP listen to someone who has piles of court cases against him, so who is in questions here?
