Record number of 19,819 new Covid-19 cases

MALAYSIA reported a record high of 19,819 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours.

More than half of these new cases were from Selangor (8,377) and Kuala Lumpur (2,467).

The overall number of Covid-19 cases now stands at 1,183,110.

The previous single-day high was 17,786 cases, reported on July 31.

This will be the 23rd day that the nation has continuously reported cases in the five-figures.

Selangor has now dominated new cases by state for 104 days.

Besides Selangor and Kuala Lumpur taking the top two spots, Kedah was third in the list with 1,371 cases.

Other states to report new cases were Johor (1,162), Kelantan (1,003), Sabah (949), Penang (867), Negri Sembilan (800), Perak (662), Pahang (558), Sarawak (552), Malacca (508) and Terengganu (481).

Three states reporting cases in two figures and lower were Putrajaya with 46 cases, Perlis (11) and Labuan (5h).

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 vaccines administered yesterday were again slightly below the daily target of 500,000, with 483,368 shots dispensed nationwide.

Of yesterday’s figure, 240,394 were first doses, while 242,974 received their second doses, the Special Committee on Covid-19 Vaccine Supply said.

This raises the total number of people with shots to 22.15 million. – August 4, 2021.
