POKOK Sena MP Mahfuz Omar was at the Kedah police contingent headquarters today to give his statement in connection with allegations he insulted Sultan of Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah during a political ceramah.

He arrived with his lawyer, Mohd Fikri Abd Rahman, and several supporters at 10.15am, and entered the police headquarters compound at 10.30am.

Earlier, he said he was willing to give his statement and cooperate fully with police, following reports lodged against him in Pahang.

“I am present to give my statement, and here, I wish to state that I don’t have any intention to incur the wrath of the palace, as the statement I had made was not meant to insult anyone.

“If the statement had offended the Pahang palace, I apologise. But when I listen back to my speech, what I raised was the matter of age not being an obstacle in being a leader or chief.”

Yesterday, Regent of Pahang Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah said he was angry and took offence at Mahfuz, who also allegedly breached the Malay code of ethics.

Mahfuz, during a ceramah with Pakatan Harapan, had commented on the ability of Dr Mahathir Mohamad to lead the country at the age of 92, comparing the former prime minister with the ailing Sultan Ahmad Shah.

Following this, police reports have been lodged against Mahfuz.

The MP has since apologised to the Pahang sultan and regent.

Kedah Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Mior Farid Al Atrash Wahid, in a statement, said investigations were being conducted under Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233(1) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. – Bernama, January 18, 2018.
