FIVE organisers of the #Lawan rally have been called in by the Dang Wangi police, Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat said.

In a statement, the coalition of youth and civil society groups said Mohamad Al Shatri Abdullah, Mohammad Azhar, Tharmelinggem Pillai, Qyira Yusri and Sevan Doraisamy. They have been asked to go to the police station at 10am tomorrow.

Earlier, following the end of the rally, Dang Wangi police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said police will call up all parties, including the organisers, involved in the #Lawan rally for questioning.

He said although the rally was peaceful, it was a violation of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within Infected Local Areas) (National Recovery Plan) Regulations 2021.

“The rally was peaceful, but police will take follow-up action because it clearly violates Regulation 10 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (National Recovery Plan) 2021,” Zainal said in a press conference held at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.

He said no one is allowed to assemble or engage in any gathering in any place, whether for religious, social, sports, wedding or cultural activities.

The protest, which took place near Dataran Merdeka, saw some 1,000 participants.

Zainal said the participants were planning to assemble at Dataran Merdeka, so police had prevented them from entering the area.

“Therefore, they held the rally outside the Dataran Merdeka area, and we gave them time to disperse,” he said.

Commenting on the compliance with standard operating procedures, Zainal said the rally participants wore masks, but physical distancing was not observed. – July 31, 2021.
