WALK-IN vaccination will be allowed at certain Covid-19 vaccination centres (PPV) in the Klang Valley in early August, said Khairy Jamaluddin.

The coordinating minister for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme said walk-ins will be allowed once the surge capacity operation is completed on August 1.

On July 16, Khairy had said that under the surge capacity operation, Putrajaya would ensure that every adult resident of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur aged 18 and above will receive at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine by August 1.

“We will open according to category first,” he said in a press conference today.

On August 2, he said walk-ins will be allowed for those aged above 40 and with comorbidities.

Walk-in will be opened for those aged above 18 on August 5.

“The list of PPVs that will be accepting walk-ins in the Klang Valley will be issued by today,” he said.

Procedures for the walk-in will also be announced shortly.

He stressed that not all PPVs will be conducting walk-in vaccination.

“Don’t be under the impression that all PPV’s will accept walk-ins,” he added.

However, walk-in will only be permitted for those who do not have appointments, namely those who have not gotten back appointments, cancelled their appointments and have yet to register for vaccination.

Khairy said those who walk in will be given their turns on a first-come, first-served  basis, depending on the capacity.

Those who are unable to get their jabs that day will be given priority the next day.

Khairy added that the government is looking to fully inoculate 40% of the population by Merdeka Day on August 31.

The Palace of Golden Horses PPV will cater to expatriates working and living in Malaysia.

He said 500 Chinese nationals were vaccinated today and the remaining will be vaccinated at PPVs all over the country next week.

There are between 26,000 and 30,000 Chinese citizens living and working in Malaysia.

On vaccine supplies, Khairy said the China government has contributed half a million doses of vaccine to Malaysia.

He said the government has received 12 million doses of the Sinovac vaccine and has purchased an additional three million doses.

The first consignment of the vaccine from CanSino Biologics Inc is expected to arrive in the first week of August. – July 31, 2021.
