ISLAMIST party PAS is still backing Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin despite demands from the opposition for the Pagoh lawmaker to resign.

“PAS stands with the prime minister and will uphold any decision by the cabinet,” said deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

“We should reject any attempt of politicking as the country is fighting to curb the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Calls for Muhyiddin to resign were loud today after the palace issued a statement that the king was not informed on the revocation of the emergency.

De facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan from PAS was also not spared as he had announced to Parliament on Monday on the revocation of the emergency ordinances.

The king expressed disappointment with the government’s announcement it had withdrawn emergency ordinances on July 21 without any debate in Parliament.

He said that he was not informed of the government’s intention to revoke the ordinances.

The Agong also said that the government’s haste in revoking the ordinances without debating them in Parliament was disrespectful of the principles of rules of law, and paid no heed to the constitutional powers and functions of the king. – July 29, 2021.
