AS of yesterday, 38.2% or 12.5 million Malaysians have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, said Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

Khairy, who is also the co-ordinating minister for the national Covid-19 immunisation programme said, of this figure, 18.1% or 5.9 million people have completed their vaccination.

He said the total number of doses administered since the vaccination drive started is now 18.4 million.

“As such, 53.3% of the adult population have now received one dose, while 25.2% have completed their vaccination,” the Rembau MP told the Dewan Rakyat today.

As for vaccine registrations, Khairy said 20.1 million or 61.7% of the total 32.7 million population have already registered, adding that 18.8 million are adults, while 1.2 million are children younger than 18.

Khairy said the total registration is still low compared to the 80% vaccinated population target.

“The vaccination programme registration in several states is lower than the targets set in the national recovery plan for the state to progress from one phase to another.

“The government is aware that some states will have more difficulties registering for the programme, due to geographical and demographic differences and access to communications.

“As such, the government has planned different strategies to ensure they will be included.”

Khairy also said the government has already received 26.3 million out of the required 41.7 million Covid-19 vaccine doses.

“As of July 26, the government has received 23.9 million doses from the suppliers with the remainder coming from donations from Japan, the United States and China.”

After a break of eight months, the Perikatan Nasional government is conducting a five-day briefing session for MPs in Parliament from July 26 to August 2.

Khairy is the third minister to speak, after Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and Health Minister Dr Adham Baba on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. – July 28, 2021.
