SIX individuals who participated in yesterday’s Konvoi #lawan protest have been released by the cops, Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat (SSR) said.

SSR’s spokesperson Mohd Asraf Sharafi Mohd Azhar informed The Malaysian Insight that all six spent six hours at the Brickfields district police station before all were let go unconditionally.

The six were among hundreds of people protesting from their vehicles yesterday while waving black flags.

“All six had their statements recorded and there were lawyers assisting them. They were investigated for allegedly flouting the Covid-19 guidelines but no fine was issued today,” Asraf said when contacted.

Asraf said another four individuals were also questioned by the cops in Sepang and Malacca this morning.

All were set free after questioning.

“Tomorrow Dang Wangi police and Kajang police will be calling several individuals who participated in yesterday’s rally,” he added.

Asraf also clarified about the arrest of three people in Temerloh yesterday, saying the three were not taken into custody but were asked to ride in a police patrol car instead.

“In Temerloh, we have been told that they were not detained. They were asked to get into a patrol car and they were taken for a ride.

“They were given warning by the cops. We view this as an intimidation,” he stressed.

The Malaysian Insight yesterday reported three men were apprehended in Temerloh for participating in the Konvoi #lawan protest.

Police also brought the protest to a stop in several areas nationwide while SSR claimed police had harassed and intimidated the participants, stopping them from continuing with the protest, which was supposed to have been held from 11am to 5pm.

The protestors demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, a full parliamentary sitting and a moratorium on bank loan repayments for all.

The group estimated that more than 100 vehicles joined the protest and the number could have been bigger if not for the police. – July 25, 2021.
