A TOTAL of RM 645,000 was found in the homes and bank accounts of two senior police officers and seven others arrested for graft in a follow-up operation conducted by MACC today.
Stacks of cash amounting to RM79,000 were found in the house of the Melaka Tengah district police chief.
The 54 year-old Assistant Commissioner is among the three officers of the law arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today.
The other two are the Jasin district police chief and a police inspector with the anti-vice and anti gambling unit of the Malacca police contingent.
It is understood that a total RM186,000 was found in the suspects’ homes and RM459,000 in their bank accounts.
The money, which was seized, is believed to have been obtained via a police protection racket for illegal gaming centres and illegal massage parlours in Melaka.
MACC is also holding six more suspects, three of which are police officers from Melaka Tengah and Jasin.
MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Azam Baki said the police officers in remand is believed to have asked for bribes and “protection money” from the illegal gaming and massage parlour operators.
