FORMER minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman today confirmed he will be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court tomorrow morning.
Alluding that the charges are political, the Muar MP said he has faced threats every time Parliament convenes.
“I’d rather go to court than enter Perikatan Nasional,” he said in a Twitter post tonight.
“It is in moments like this that I am reminded why I joined politics.
“Truth will always prevail,” the former youth and sports minister said.
It was reported earlier today that a former minister and a youth chief of a political party is to be charged tomorrow by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for criminal breach of trust involving the misappropriation of RM1 million in party funds.
An MACC source said the former minister is expected to be charged under Sections 403 and 405 of the Penal Code for misappropriation of funds and criminal breach of trust.
“The individual is believed to have misappropriated party funds, which was estimated to be RM1.12 million while he was its youth chief,” said the source to The Malaysian Insight.
Investigations into the lawmaker started in June 2020 following a report by Syed Saddiq over the loss of RM250,000 that had disappeared from his parents’ home in Petaling Jaya.
In a video uploaded to his social media accounts, Syed Saddiq said he would be appearing live on his Facebook and Instagram accounts tomorrow night to clarify the issue.
“At 8.30am tomorrow I’ll be present at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court to be charged and at 8.30pm tomorrow night, I will have a Facebook and Instagram live to further discuss this issue.” – July 21, 2021.
