A TOTAL of 3.6 million Malaysians who have attained the age of 21 as of September 2017 have yet to register as voters, the Election Commission said today.

EC secretary Abdul Ghani Salleh said as of the third quarter of 2017, the electoral roll registered 14.8 million voters.

The EC received 212,042 fresh applications for registration as voters and 72,998 applications for change of address in the fourth quarter of 2017, he said in a statement.

Ghani said the supplementary electoral rolls for the fourth quarter of 2017 would be displayed for 14 days, from tomorrow till January 30, at 961 venues in the country.

He advised those who had applied to register to vote or to change  address in October, November and December last year to check the rolls to verify the information.

Fresh applicants whose names did not appear in the displayed rolls should make a claim on Form B and submit it to the registrar (state election director) of the relevant registration area during office hours during the display period, he said.

He said registered voters who wished to object to the inclusion of  names on the 4/2017 supplementary rolls could do so on Form C.

An individual may raise an objection against not more than 20 individuals, according to Regulation 15(3) of the Elections (Registration of Electors) Regulations 2002.

“The objection should be submitted to the registrar (state election director) of the relevant registration area during office hours on any working day during the display,” he said.

He said during the display , the EC would also display the names of voters which would be removed from the roll due to death or loss of citizenship.

Applicants may visit the EC website at www.spr.gov.my or use the app My SPR Semak to check the list of names displayed in the 4/2017 supplementary electoral roll. Queries should be addressed to the EC head office at 03-88927018 or to any state election office. – Bernama, January 16, 2018.
