MALAYSIA continued to report daily Covid-19 cases in the five figures as the country logged 12,541 cases over the past 24 hours, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.
Although the cases dipped slightly today, this would be the fourth straight day that Malaysia has logged more than 10,000 daily cases, taking the nation’s caseload to 893,323, just around 6,000 cases shy of the 900,000 mark.
Noor Hisham also gave the breakdown of the cases, saying that almost 98% of the cases reported today were of patients with no symptoms or mild symptoms.
A breakdown of today’s reported cases are as follows:
- Category 1 (no symptoms): 6,504 (51.9%)
- Category 2 (mild symptoms): 5,848 (46.6%)
- Category 3 (with pneumonia): 86 (0.7%)
- Category 4 (with pneumonia requiring oxygen therapy): 49 (0.4%)
- Category 5 (critical & requiring assisted ventilation): 54 (0.4%)
He added that Selangor continued to top the chart of daily cases by state with 5,512 cases, followed by Negeri Sembilan with 1,619 cases and Kuala Lumpur rounding the top three with 1,542 cases.
The number of cases reported in Negeri Sembilan today is the highest since the onset of the pandemic, with the previous high coming yesterday at 1,603.
The Klang Valley accounted for 7,116 cases or 57% of the total cases today.
Meanwhile, other states reporting new cases were Johor with 609 cases, Sabah (326), Sarawak (423), Penang (376), Kelantan (225), Kedah (458), Perak (299), Malacca (575), Pahang (382), and Terengganu (102).
Only three states recorded new cases in the two-digits or lower, and they are Putrajaya with 62 cases, Labuan (24) and Perlis (7).
Meanwhile, a record 460,158 vaccine doses were administered yesterday under the national immunisation programme.
The Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) said 304,807 people received their first dose, and 155,351 their second dose.
