MALAYSIA will stop administering China’s Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme once its supplies end, said Dr Adham Baba. 

The health minister said they will increase the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine under the immunisation programme, with Malaysia having procured more than 45 million doses of this brand. 

“We have orders to bring in 45.7 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine compared with Sinovac, of which we ordered around 16 million doses,” Adham said at a press conference today.  

Adham was responding to a question on the Kelantan Health Department’s announcement that it will be stopping the Sinovac vaccine at the end of this month.  

Adham acknowledged the stop decision and said the rest of the population in Kelantan will receive the Pfizer vaccine.  

He said as of now, half of the Sinovac vaccines have been administered, while the other half are kept for second doses. – July 15, 2021.
