PAKATAN Harapan Youth today dared Barisan Nasional chairman Najib Razak to debate with the opposition pact’s prime minister candidate, Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Najib claims that Malaysia is the best democracy in the world, so let’s have it,” said PH Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad in Petaling Jaya.

He said it was common for mature democracies to have live, public presidential or prime ministerial debates during election campaigns.

He said this would enable the people to compare not just the calibre of the two leaders, but also the policies offered by the coalitions on both sides of the political divide.

PH Youth chief secretary Howard Lee said the pact would be happy to either host the debate or let BN play host.

“It should be live on RTM so that everyone can watch it for free.”

Meanwhile, the wing announced that it would kick off its nationwide road tour to engage young people tonight, and that it would be carried out till the end of March.

“It’s not going to be just ceramah. We’ll have kopitiam chats and small-scale forums at the parliamentary and state assembly levels, organised by the PH state leadership, with young people, including our detractors,” said Lee.

“We have announced our offers for young people. We want to find out what they think.”

The first forum to discuss PH’s manifesto for the youth will be held at the Malaysiakini headquarters tonight.

PH launched its manifesto for young people on January 6. It includes promises to raise minimum wage to RM1,500, build more affordable homes, as well as free motorcycle licences. – January 16, 2018.
