Ex-beauty queen in court following arrest over roadblock


THE ex-beauty queen who was arrested yesterday for allegedly running a police roadblock and punching a policeman has been charged.

Petaling Jaya district police chief Mohamad Fakhruddin Abdul Hamid told The Malaysian Insight that the 28-year-old was charged at the Petaling Jaya court this morning.

Yesterday, the former participant of an international beauty pageant was detained with a friend at about 3am on Jalan Universiti in Petaling Jaya after failing to stop at a roadblock along the Federal Highway.

The two women were headed from Kuala Lumpur towards Klang in a car.

According to reports, police patrols in the area were alerted, and the vehicle was pursued before being cornered on Jalan Universiti.

Reports said she acted aggressively and punched a police officer.

“Both the women were arrested and tests showed the driver was driving under the influence of alcohol. Urine tests on both suspects turned out positive for ganja.” Fakhruddin said in a statement yesterday. – July 9, 2021.
