The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has approved Pejuang’s application as a political party, said its founding chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad today.
He said the party was informed of the approval today.
The former prime minister said the approval comes on the final day of the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s 14-day time frame given to Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin to decide on the registration of the party.
“I received the approval from both the director-general of RoS and also from the minister.
“We thank the government for officially registering our party,” the nonagenarian said at a virtual press conference today.
On June 25, the Kuala Lumpur High Court gave Hamzah 14 days to make a decision on Pejuang’s appeal to be registered as a political party.
Judge Ahmad Kamal Md Shahid said Hamzah was in breach of his statutory duty for his inaction over the party’s application to be registered.
Pejuang has four members of parliament and a senator. – July 8, 2021.
