A DEPUTY minister today apologised for a recent video of his online solemnisation, which went viral, that may have upset some social media users.
Deputy Agriculture and Food Industries Minister Che Abdullah Mat Nawi said it is a personal matter and should not have gone public.
“I apologise if the issue has offended anyone,” said the Tumpat MP.
“It seemed that it was intended to embarrass or shame my family, or probably interfere with my work.”
Che Abdullah hoped the public would respect his privacy and that of his family without providing details about the marriage.
“I hope everyone will give me the space to resolve this issue amicably,” he was quoted as saying by Malay daily Sinar Harian.
“God willing, this issue would not affect my work as a deputy minister and an MP.”
Astro Awani reported on Sunday that the Narathiwat Islamic Council in Thailand was investigating a marriage solemnisation ceremony that was conducted online, involving a deputy minister.
An official from the council was also quoted as saying that it had never approved “online solemnisation ceremonies”.
The report followed a video that has gone viral on social media showing a deputy minister and a woman in her 20s exchanging vows online during the marriage solemnisation ceremony.
A close-up photo of the marriage certificate showed that the ceremony was conducted on June 1. – July 7, 2021.
