A third of B40 aid recipients have chronic diseases, says Adham

THIRTY-THREE percent of the lowest income earners who are recipients of government health aid have been diagnosed with at least one non-communicable disease, said Health Minister Dr Adham Baba.

Under Skim Peduli Kesihatan for B40 (PeKa 40), 457,462 individuals underwent health screenings and 151,729 of them were found to have non-communicable diseases, also known as chronic diseases, that were previously undiagnosed.

  • The most effective method is to stop it at the source so the government can reduce spending on screenings and treatments. Get our people to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Have campaigns to stop smoking, exercise regularly, watch what they eat and inform them what a healthy diet is. Ask them to lose weight. Make sure They know sugar is not healthy. Keep drumming into them until the message will get through to them. This is what the health ministry should do. We need to keep our people well informed so they can and will adopt a healthier lifestyle.
