SELANGOR aims to vaccinate 135,000 people daily this month under the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax), said Amirudin Shari.

The Selangor menteri besar said since last week they have been vaccinating 53,000 people daily.

“With Selvax, we can increase the vaccination process as targeted by Coordinating Minister of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Khairy Jamaluddin,” he said after visiting Mentari Court in Petaling Jaya, which has been placed under the enhanced movement-control order (EMCO).

Last month, Khairy said Selangor will be able to achieve 80% vaccination rate by September as the state plans to ramp up its daily vaccination rate.

He had said the country’s most populous state will be ramping up its daily vaccination rate to 135,000 per day this month and 165,000 per day in August.

Earlier today, Selangor, in its effort to reduce the number of new Covid-19 cases at work sectors, said it is adopting the ring vaccination strategy with a focus on the manufacturing and services sectors.

State industry and trade committee chairman Teng Chang Khim said Selvax aimed to vaccinate one million employees and it is open to companies and industries to participate voluntarily.

Ring vaccination is a strategy to inhibit the spread of a disease by vaccinating those who are most likely to be infected.

Yesterday, the Klang Valley accounted for the highest number of infections with Selangor reporting 2,262 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 616. Its cumulative total since the start of the pandemic is 259,852 total, making it the state with the highest number of infections.

Amirudin said looking at the current vaccination process, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak had surpassed one million doses.

“Because we have a huge population, our targeted percentage is low.

“If we are looking at the vaccination process for adults, then in Selangor we have surpassed 10% and now we are at 27% for the first dose.

“As for the second dose we are at 8% to 9% of the population.”

He also believed that they will see results from the implementation of the EMCO in three weeks.

“Only in three weeks we can see the affects and if there is reduction in cases. Our weapon now is the vaccine, so the focus is EMCO and vaccination process.” – July 5, 2021.
