THREE Malacca policemen have been arrested for allegedly protecting illegal gambling dens and massage parlours.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) detained the trio, who included an assistant superintendent and inspector, the Star Online reported yesterday.
All three were based in Malacca Tengah and Jasin. MACC raided an illegal gambling den operator and a middleman, who had solicited, collected and distributed the “protection money” among corrupt police officers in the state, were also detained.
The five men, aged between 31 and 41, were picked up in a sting operation about 11am on Friday around Malacca. They are being held at MACC’s Putrajaya headquarters.
MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Azam Baki confirmed the arrests, adding that investigations were still under way.
The daily reported that MACC was also looking for a former district police chief, who had been transferred from the state and said to have refused to work with the illegal operators. – May 17, 2017.
