PARLIAMENT will only convene after the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has been advised on the matter by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, said Mohd Rashid Hasnon.

The Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker said the house will convene either through a hybrid or conventional sitting.

“We will see you soon, God willing,” he said outside the Istana Negara’s Gate 2  after the meeting today.

Rashid had joined Dewan Rakyat speaker Azhar Azizan Harun and Dewan Negara president Dr Rais Yatim for an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at the National Palace this morning.

Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Azalina Othman Said and Senate deputy president Mohamad Ali Mohamad were also part of the group that met the king.

Last Friday, a source told The Malaysian Insight that the Agong had summoned Azhar and Rais.

“It is believed that the meeting will discuss parliamentary-related issues, including the hybrid Parliament proposal that is set to take place at the end of August or September,” the source told The Malaysian Insight.’

The summons for an audience was issued after Azhar and Rais in a statement said the earliest a hybrid Parliament can convene is end-August or September.

They said the Parliament office has set up a special steering committee to hold hybrid proceedings. – June 29, 2021.
