ALL lawmakers will get an allocation of RM300,000 each to distribute food baskets for those in need in their respective constituencies, said Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

“I have put aside political differences when it comes to channeling aid to the people.

“Be it government or opposition MP, all of them hold the collective responsibility to help the people especially when they are going through a difficult time.

“Put this aid to good use to help the people in your constituencies,” he said in announcing the Pemulih economic package today.

Lawmakers such as Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Muar), Lim Lip Eng (Kepong) and Hannah Yeoh (Segambut) are among those who have been receiving many requests in their respective constituencies from B40 families for food aid.

Muhyiddin added that another RM10 billion has been allocated for food baskets for the Orang Asli community.

He said the government is committed towards reducing the people’s burden.

He said a price control mechanism will be imposed on bottled cooking oil weighing from 1kg to 5kg, based on the price of crude palm oil.

“Through this programme, for example, the price of a 5kg bottle of cooking oil can be controlled so that it does not exceed RM30,” he added.

The government has also allocated RM1 billion to ensure the continuous supply of 1kg polybag of cooking oil.

This will ensure that the price remains at a subsidised price of RM2.50 per kg of packet cooking oil. – June 28, 2021.
