A LIGHTWEIGHT military helicopter owned by the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) had to perform an emergency landing this afternoon at the TLDM naval base in Lumut.

RMN said in a statement that it was investigating the reason for the emergency landing, adding that no one on board the AS 555 SN Fennec helicopter sustained injuries.

“All crews however have been sent to the RMN Hospital for further check-up. No injuries were reported and the incident did not involve the public,” the statement read.

RMN’s fleet of six AS 555 SN Fennec helicopters have been in service since 2004.

The light twin, multi-role AS555 SN fleet is used primarily for lead-in training and other naval flying operations.

On March 24, two people sustained injuries when a helicopter operated by a private firm crashed at Subang Airport.

The Airbus AS350 B3 helicopter had left Sg Lembing in Pahang at 8.30am and was on a private flight to Subang via Maran, Temerloh, Karak and Batu Caves. – June 28, 2021.
