MALAYSIA’S vaccine utilisation is 90%, said Khairy Jamaluddin amid criticisms that the national immunisation programme is slow.
“The shipments (of vaccines) are coming. I’m not sitting on any vaccines. Once they are here, we send them to the vaccination centres and states,” said the immunisation coordinating minister in Port Klang today.
“Our vaccine utilisation rate is 90% and used within several days. The 10% is a buffer,” said Khairy.
Khairy was speaking on the sidelines of the launch of the first maritime vaccination centre in Port Klang today.
He said that many industries and states have asked for vaccines and the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force would send out the vaccines as soon as they arrive.
“All our (vaccination) targets are dependent on supplies,” said the science, technology and innovation minister.
Khairy and Transport Minister Dr Wee Ka Siong was at the launch of the first vaccination centre in Port Klang today.
Following the rise in workplace infections, the government has begun vaccinating the economic sector.
The first sector to be targeted was manufacturing, followed by transport.
According to Khairy, the construction sector will begin vaccinating its workers on July 1.
But he assured the public that the sectoral immunisation will not affect the main vaccination programme, which is based on age groups.
As of today, 4.7 million people have received their first doses through 521 vaccination centres. The government has been vaccinating around 250,000 per day for the past three days. – June 25, 2021.
