3 detained for selling Covid-19 vaccine

POLICE have arrested three people for allegedly selling Covid-19 vaccine without government authorisation. 

Kuala Lumpur police chief Azmi Abu Kassim said the trio were picked up on yesterday following a report lodged by a research officer from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).

Police also confiscated six mobile phones and several documents. 

“The case is being investigated under Section 420/511 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property,” said Azmi.

“The Kuala Lumpur Commercial Crime Investigation Department detained three people and seized six mobile phones. All three are remanded for three days to facilitate investigations.” 

He said an initial investigation showed that the three had contacted the public randomly and offered the vaccine. 

“They charged RM420 for two doses and payment was to be made once the person received the shots,” he added.

Azmi urged those with information on the case to call the police at 03-2155 9999 or CTIF secretariat at 03-88934303. 

The government has not authorised any private party to vaccinate the population, with the task being undertaken by CITF under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

The vaccination process is overseen by Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin. – June 24, 2021.
