SELANGOR has the lowest vaccination rate among all states, yet the highest number of deaths, the state’s Covid-19 task force chairman Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said.

As of June 20, only 17.15% of Selangor residents registered for vaccination have received a jab.

A chart he posted on Twitter showed that this was the lowest rate among all states as of that date. The states with the highest vaccination rates of those registered were Kuala Lumpur (52.3%), while those with rates above 40% were Labuan, Perlis, Putrajaya and Sarawak.

The state with the next lowest rate after Selangor is Johor, at 19.6%.

In terms of deaths, Selangor is the highest over the last the days until June 20 at 34.94%.

Dzulkefly, a former health minister, said it was disappointing that so few Selangor residents registered for the vaccine have received it.

It was reported yesterday that 78.9% of people in Selangor have registered.

“Selangor is still the worst despite Sultan of Selangor Sharafuddin Idris Shah having stated his disappointment on the matter and his censure of the Covid-19 immunisation task force,” Dzulkefly said on Twitter, referring to the sultan’s statement on June 8 that it was unfair the country’s most populous state had received only 615,210 doses of vaccines at the time.

This was after the Selangor government disputed the CITF’s assertion that 2.9 million vaccine doses had been handed to the state, which the team subsequently admitted was not the case.

The CITF had included the jabs in storage, still awaiting distribution to the state.

However, as of yesterday, only 10.2% of Selangor’s population has been given the first shot of a Covid-19 vaccine, according to the special committee for ensuring access to Covid-19 vaccine supply.

It releases vaccination figures daily for the previous day, including by state, and against the state’s total population instead of those who have registered.

As of yesterday, the committee said 3.3% of Selangor’s population have received two doses. – June 22, 2021.
