THE National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme reported its highest daily number of vaccine shots given with 235,623 doses administered yesterday.
The Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) said on social media that 181,840 people received their first jab while 53,783 received their second dose.
This brings the total number of doses administered as of 11.59pm yesterday is 6.05 million.
Of this, 1.66 million people or 5.1% of the population have completed their two-dose schedule, while 4.38 million or 13.4% of the population has received one dose.
Kuala Lumpur saw the highest vaccination rate with 42.7% having received their first dose while 8.2% have been fully immunised.
A total of 757,438 doses were administered as first dose while 145,906 were second doses.
The capital also reported 100% registration.
Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said yesterday that the government wants to immunise 10% of the population against Covid-19 by mid-July.
“Currently for every 100 doses that we administer, 30 doses are the second dose. So, in order to immunise 10% of the population or 3.2 million people, we need to administer roughly 10.7 million doses, taking into consideration the ratio that I mentioned just now,” he told the weekly joint press conference with Health Minister Dr Adham Baba.
“We are aiming to administer eight million doses in June and hopefully we will reach 10.7 million by mid-July,” Khairy, who is also the coordinating minister for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, said.
“This will involve ramping up our daily capacity. We feel like we can reach 10.7 million doses, and therefore 10% of the population, by mid-July. That is our present projection at the moment,” he added.
He said the projection is based on several factors including vaccine supplies and capacity of vaccination centres. – June 22, 2021.
