A TOTAL of six vaccination centres under the Public-Private Partnership Covid-19 Industry Immunisation Programme of Penang have been approved so far to further boost the immunisation process involving the industrial and manufacturing sectors in the state.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said two of the centres are in Bukit Jawi Golf Resort (operational since June 16), Equatorial Hotel (to operate from June 28). The other four that will operate involve multinational companies Intel Technology Sdn Bhd, Jabil Circuits Sdn Bhd, Plexus Manufacturing Sdn Bhd in Bayan Lepas and Inari Amerton Bhd in Batu Kawan.

“All the centres will continue also provide services to employees from other companies,” he said in a statement today.

He said that based on data from the Penang Health Department, workplace transmission was still the highest with 27 factory clusters detected; non-factory clusters (3); construction site clusters (2); community clusters (2); detention centre cluster (one); and religious cluster (1).

Meanwhile, Chow said the state government was using various approaches, including outreach, to get organisations and localities to encourage residents in the state to register and be vaccinated so that no group is left behind.

He said the data showed that, as of yesterday, a total of 93 old folks’ homes had been approached under the initiative and 3,513 residents and carers had been vaccinated.

“From the enforcement aspect, a total of 101 factories have been ordered shut due to Covid-19 from January until yesterday, with 45 of them located in the district of Seberang Perai Tengah; Barat Daya (36); Seberang Perai Selatan (14) and three each in Seberang Perai Utara and Timur Laut,” he said. – Bernama, June 21, 2021.
