880 cases in ICU, 60 deaths

COVID-19 cases in intensive care units (ICU) are still high, with 880 patients currently, after fourteen new cases were admitted today. It was 866 yesterday.

Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were also 454 cases today that require respiratory assistance.

Noor Hisham said there were also 60 deaths, taking the national toll of fatalities to 4,408.

Total cases today were 5,293, down from 5,911 yesterday.

The new deaths today involved 20 cases in Selangor, Johor (12), Negeri Sembilan (11), four cases each in Kuala Lumpur and Labuan, two cases each in Sabah, Perak, and Sarawak, and one each in Penang, Kedah, and Pahang.

Of the 60, only four deaths were foreign nationals.

The oldest fatality was an 89-year-old woman who died at the Jelebu hospital who had a history of medical conditions, whereas the youngest was a 28-year-old female who had no history of illnesses, she died at the Kajang hospital.

Thirteen of the dead had no known illnesses, while five other cases were dead on arrival.

Noor Hisham said the country recorded 5,941 new recoveries today. – June 20, 2021.
