866 cases in ICU, 72 deaths

COVID-19 cases in intensive care units (ICU) are still high with 866 patients today, despite a dip in total fresh infections to below 6,000.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were also 441 cases today that require respiratory assistance.  

Total cases today were 5,911, down from 6,440 yesterday.

There were also 72 deaths, taking the national toll of fatalities to 4,348. 

He said the deaths involved 23 cases in Selangor, 15 in Kuala Lumpur, seven in Negri Sembilan, six in Pahang, five each in Johor and Sarawak, three in Labuan, two cases each in Kelantan and Penang, and one each in Sabah, Perak, Malacca and Kedah.

The oldest person to succumb to the virus was a 90-year-old female from Selangor who had high blood pressure and dislipidemia.

The youngest deaths were a 33-year-old male foreigner from Kuala Lumpur who had no symptoms and a 33-year-old male from Labuan who was obese. – June 19, 2021.
