ALL construction works at the new Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control Centre (KLATCC) in Sepang have been completed with only minor corrective actions in progress, said the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).

CAAM, in a statement today, said that it has been working with the Fire and Rescue Department on an alternative fire retardant system and the installation has been fully completed.

“Additionally, the final mechanical and electrical drawings for the alternative fire retardant system has also been approved by the department,” said CAAM.

CAAM said that it will schedule a final inspection once the lockdown has been lifted.

CAAM also said that roof installations were currently being made in two control rooms that are being installed with new insulations.

“Sound proofing rectification works for the main operating room and business continuity training and simulation room are ongoing while adhering to the standard operating procedure set by the National Security Council.

“The decision to improve the sound insulations in the control rooms was made in the best interest of all air traffic controllers in order to provide a conducive work environment.”

It said that sound proofing rectification works was not a requirement for obtaining the Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC) but an initiative made to ensure comfort for all air traffic controllers.

Further, CAAM assured that the postponement of KLATCC’s operational launch will not impact aviation safety as this has been notified through Aeronautical Information Publication Supplements on June 7.

The Malaysian Insight reported today that KLATCC had to postpone its move to the new RM650 million facility in Sepang tomorrow as it had not obtained a CCC yet.

It was also reported that the KLATCC would proceed with new flight protocols at its current base in Subang despite the delay.

According to CAAM, the move was postponed due to the rising number of Covid-19 infections and the low air traffic caused by border closures. – June 16, 2021.
