Muhyiddin granted audience with Agong

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has been granted an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong ahead of the Conference of Rulers meeting tomorrow.

Muhyiddin arrived at Istana Negara at about 2.20pm, a few hours after the Special Independent Emergency Committee chairman Arifin Zakaria met the king in the morning.

Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah had been receiving a long line of political leaders over the past week with regard to the country’s Covid-19 situation and emergency declaration.

Previously, it was reported that the King would convene a special Conference of Rulers meeting on June 16 (tomorrow).

The meeting was decided last week amid the deepening Covid-19 crisis in the country, issues with the vaccination programme, calls for an end to the state of emergency and Parliament to reconvene.

“This conference is His Majesty’s initiative and will be chaired by His Majesty,” Istana Negara comptroller Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said last week.

Tomorrow’s meeting will be the first time the rulers are meeting following the cancellation of the Conference of Rulers on February 24, due to the second movement-control order (MCO 2.0).

The Conference of Rulers meeting, which is held three times a year, is now set for June 30. – June 15, 2021.
