Dr Mahathir is the best Pakatan can offer, says Azmin

PAKATAN Harapan chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad is the best prime ministerial candidate that the opposition can offer for now, said Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali today.

Azmin, who is Selangor PH chief, said the priority now was to convince Malaysians to choose PH over  Barisan Nasional (BN).

“We are not forcing the people to accept us but this is the best that we can offer at this moment.

“This is PH’s decision and our priority is to persuade the people that PH is the coalition for them; and if the people would accept a 93-year-old as the prime ministerial candidate, why not?” he told reporters after the handing over of Zakaria Mosque in Gombak today.

Last Sunday at the PH convention, the pact announced Dr Mahathir was the opposition prime minister and PH president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, his deputy.

The pact said Dr Mahathir would however make way for Anwar Ibrahim as soon as it could secure a royal pardon for the jailed PKR leader so that he could return to Parliament.

Azmin, who is PKR deputy president, said the focus should not be solely on the prime ministerial candidate but also on the PH manifesto, which was outlined at Sunday’s convention.

“Don’t only focus on the prime minister’s post as there were many other things that the convention offered.

“Why only focus on Dr Mahathir? We cannot focus too much on one individual, we have to focus on the team.

“Malaysians do not choose based on the individual, they choose based on the team, that is my message to Malaysians,” he said. – January 12, 2018.
