MALAYSIA is in the midst of developing two types of Covid-19 vaccines, Health Minister Dr Adham Baba said today.

The vaccines are being developed by a group of researchers at the Health Ministry’s Institute of Medical Research (IMR).

“The (development of the) two vaccines, a ribonucleic acid vaccine or messenger RNA vaccine (mRNA) and the inactivated types, are part of efforts to step up the capacity for vaccine development and other preparations to face the pandemic in the future,” Adham said in a post on Facebook.

Malaysia is currently administering the Pfizer-BioNTech, Vaxzevria by AstraZeneca-Oxford and Sinovac’s CoronaVac vaccines under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

Local pharmaceutical giant Pharmaniaga Bhd has also been carrying out the fill and finish process for Sinovac’s Coronavac vaccine. – June 13, 2021.
