SELANGOR today unveiled a second aid package of RM551.56 million for its citizens ravaged by the Covid-19 virus.

The Kita Selangor 2.0 package with the theme “Together Towards Success” is based on three strategies covering 25 programmes, said Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari.

The three strategies included caring for the welfare and survival of the people, saving the economic sector and controlling the spread of the pandemic.

In looking after the welfare of the people, Amirudin said the state government will provide a 1.5 month moratorium for 40,000 Hijrah Selangor entrepreneurs –worth RM11.35 million.

Also part of the package is the deferment of repayment of education loans for 1,300 graduates in 2021 (RM1.3 million) and rent deferment for 2,632 tenants in people’s housing projects and 477 participants of the Smart Sewa scheme (RM900,000).

Amirudin also launched the Selangor Internet Data programme worth RM17.5 million.

“This will subsidise sim cards with unlimited internet data facilities for 70,000 recipients comprising hawkers, students, single mothers, taxi drivers, seniors and gig economy workers,” the menteri besar said.

To boost the state’s economy, RM200 million will be added to the Selangor Advance financing scheme to help small and medium enterprises in covering their expenses.

“This will leverage their cash flow to maintain continuity of operations and help save jobs,” he said.

To help those who lost their jobs as a result of the movement-control orders, Amirudin said RM80 million is allocated to 8,000 entrepreneurs as initial capital to start a business.

The state government also set aside RM200 million for the Selangor Covid-19 Vaccination Programme to obtain vaccines to accelerate group immunity.

Selangor will also continue with its mass community screening (RM10.7 million) with a target of another free 100,000 screenings, Amirudin said.

The first aid package, Kita Selangor, was announced on January 20 with a total allocation of RM73.877 million. – June 9, 2021.
