SELANGOR will be receiving more Covid-19 vaccines and be able to open up more vaccination centres to allow more people to get their jabs, said Khairy Jamaluddin.

The coordinating minister for the national immunisation programme said new vaccination centres, including mega ones, will be set up to help the state administer the jabs.

“Capacity in the state will be increased with the opening of more vaccination centres as the current ones are not able to cope with the additional deliveries,” he said at a press conference today.

As of June 1, Selangor, which has a population of 6.5 million people, has received only 615,210 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Yesterday, Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah said the distribution ratio of the vaccine doses was disproportionate to the state’s population.

“More mega vaccination centres will be opened soon, so priority will be given to them to curb the spread of the virus in the Klang Valley,” Khairy said.

Of the 5,566 Covid-19 cases reported yesterday, Selangor contributed 1,524.

Previously, the Covid-19 immunisation task force said that Selangor had received 2.9 million doses as of May 30, but the state had only administered 398,029 doses by the same date.

The task force later acknowledged the data error on June 5, clarifying that the 2.9 million included both vaccine stocks in government facilities and the distributor’s Selangor-based warehouse, which would be distributed to the whole country. – June 9, 2021.
