ECONOMIC frontliners will be vaccinated in phase four of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme to curb the spread of the coronavirus through workplace clusters, said Khairy Jamaluddin.

Khairy, who is the coordinating minister for the programme, said the decision is based on the number of infections that originated from industries.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) detected 92 new workplace clusters from May 30 to June 5.

“This is for the critical economic sector, especially those that need to operate during the movement control order (MCO), which includes manufacturing, export, logistics and utilities,” he said at a joint press conference in Putrajaya today.

Khairy said the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force will be working with the relevant ministries and other government agencies to implement phase 4 of the programme.

He said the industry vaccination programme will start on June 16 in Pengerang, Johor, as it has been identified as a high-risk area. It will begin with workers at the Petronas Pengerang Integrated Complex.

The roll-out will be handled by ProtectHealth Corporation Sdn Bhd, a company wholly owned by MOH.

On the supply of vaccines, Khairy said Malaysia will receive 225,810 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine on June 9, followed by 191,800 doses on June 10 and 26,910 doses on June 11.

The cumulative total of Pfizer doses received by Malaysia stands at 3.6 million.

A total of 318,200 doses of Sinovac vaccine for fill-and-finish purposes and 500,000 doses of finished ones will also be delivered to Malaysia this week.

These have received approval from the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency. – June 9, 2021.
