Weak tremor in Ranau following stronger quake in Japan

A WEAK earthquake has hit Ranau in Sabah, around 8.13pm today, says the Meteorological Department. 

The  3.1-magnitude tremor hit an area about 11km west of Ranau, said the department in a notice issued immediately after the quake.

Ranau is less than a two-hour drive from Kota Kinabalu.

A  5.1-magnitude earthquake was recorded 12 hours earlier in Japan’s Ryukyu Island, which is about 2,160km from Kudat, north of Sabah. 

There were no tsunamis was detected in both incidents, the department said. – January 11, 2018.
