890 in ICU, 87 deaths

THE number of Covid-19 patients being treated at the intensive care units (ICU) is at an all-time high of 890 patients, a new record as the pandemic worsens.

Previously, the highest number of patients who were treated in the ICU stood at 886.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 444 patients in the ICU are currently on respiratory support.

Eighty-seven deaths were also reported, a dip after reporting four straight days of 100 over deaths.

A total of 3,378 deaths have been reported in the country since the start of the pandemic.

The active caseload in the country currently stands at 86,628, with 6,241 new cases reported in the past 24 hours.

Noor Hisham said 5,133 recoveries were also reported, taking the total number of recoveries to 526,809.

Among today’s deaths, six were dead on arrival today, with all of them being male.

The youngest was a 25-year-old man who was brought to Sungai Buloh Hospital. He had a history of seizures.

The oldest was a 73-year-old man with no history of illness. 

Of the 87 deaths reported today, 34 were in Selangor, followed by 12 in Johor. 

Nine deaths were reported in Negri Sembilan, six in Kedah, five in Kuala Lumpur, four each in Sarawak and Penang, three each in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang and two each in Malacca and Labuan. – June 6, 2021.
