The enhanced movement-control order (EMCO) will be enforced in 10 Covid-19 infectious areas in Perak, Sabah and Pahang, effective from June 6 to June 19, said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said in a statement today that the decision was made based on the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) detection of a high Covid-19 positivity rate in these areas.
Most of the areas undergoing these strict lockdowns were in Perak and Sabah with one area in Pahang.
In Perak, the affected areas were at the Kampung Dato’ Ahmad Said Tambahan 2 in Kinta; Taman Kerian Tambahan in Kerian; Batu 9 Lekir villages in Manjung; Taman Berkat in Larut, Matang and Selama; as well as two Mukim Pengkalan Hulu villages and two Mukim Kerunai villages in Hulu Perak.
In Sabah, the affected areas included three localities in Papar district – the Kampung Gusi Kinarut, Kampung Tengah Kinarut and Benoni Village.
Additional areas in Sabah placed under EMCO were Lorong Ulu Sibuga 5 and 9 in Sandakan; Taman Wangsa in Kota Kinabalu; and Kampung Perpaduan in Kudat.
EMCO was also enforced in Bentong, Pahang, after reported rising Covid-19 positive cases in 15 localities.
“From May 17 to May 31, a total of 209 Covid-19 positive cases were reported around Bentong town after screening tests were conducted over 914 residents there.
“MOH found that the rate of infectiousness was high while the positivity rate was recorded at 22.9%,” Ismail Sabri said.
At least seven localities will end their EMCO, namely the Nyalu anak Francis longhouse in Mukah, Sarawak; Nyalu longhouse in Mukah, Sarawak; Felda Kahang Timur in Kluang, Johor; Oceanic Fabric Mill factory workers’ hostel and Purnabina workers’ hostel in Kluang, Johor; Kampung Lubok Redan in Alor Gajah, Melaka; Kampung Batu Muda Tambahan and PPR Kampung Limau in Kuala Lumpur; and Mukim Bunut Susu in Pasir Mas, Kelantan. – June 4, 2021.
