SEVERAL areas in Sarawak, Sabah and Pahang will be placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) starting Saturday till June 18, said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said in a statement today that eight new places in the country will be in strict lockdown after the Ministry of Health (MOH) detected a surge in new Covid-19 cases there.

One of them is the Sigah anak Lak longhouse in Dalat, Sarawak.

“As many as 37 Covid-19 cases were detected after 87 people were tested by the MOH, giving a positivity rate of 42.53% in this locality,” he said.

Kampung Pengaraban in Kudat, Sabah, will also be under EMCO.

“To date, eight positive cases have been recorded after the MOH conducted 24 screening tests, with a 33.33% positivity rate,” he said.

In Tawau, Sabah, four localities are now subject to EMCO.

Ismail Sabri said the MOH recorded 96 positive cases, namely 16 in Taman Milenium, 13 in Taman Wawasan, 55 in Kawasan Semarak and 12 in Kampung Jawa Kongsi 10.

Kampung Sugud in Penampang, Sabah, also fell under EMCO after 12 Covid-19 cases were detected from 29 screening tests.

In Pahang, Ladang Chin Teck in Rompin will be placed under EMCO after the MOH found a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases there in a week.

Ismail Sabri said 12 positive cases were detected after 223 screenings were conducted.

He also said Tumpat in Kelantan and 15 subdistricts in Besut, Terengganu, will have their EMCO extended from June 5 to June 18.

He said these areas continue to be identified as “infectious” with the number of new Covid-19 cases increasing.

The National Security Council will lift the EMCO in the low-cost public housing at Pelagat 3 in Besut, Terengganu; Rumah Banjir Kuala Teh in Jerantut, Pahang; Kampung Indani in Semporna, Sabah; Kampung Pisang in Tawau, Sabah; six subdistricts in Perak; Kampung Terusan in Pasir Tumboh, Kelantan; and Kampung Boyan in Kuching, Sarawak. – June 3, 2021.
