THE nationwide Covid-19 death toll has breached the 3,000-mark with 103 new deaths reported today.

Director-general of Health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah confirmed that 3,096 Malaysians have now died of the virus.

Yesterday, a total of 126 people died of the virus, the highest daily tally so far.

The number of patients currently being treated in intensive care units is at an all-time high of 880 cases, with 446 patients on respiratory support.

The number of active cases has also increased to 83,331 as 8,209 new Covid-19 cases were reported in the last 24 hours, with 7,049 recoveries.

Selangor reported 26 deaths, the highest number by state, followed by Kuala Lumpur (15) and Johor (14).

Sarawak and Kelantan both reported eight deaths each, while six deaths each were reported in Negri Sembilan and Terengganu. Penang and Kedah both reported two deaths each.

There were eight cases declared dead on arrival by medical staff in the past 24 hours.

The oldest was a 97-year-old woman in Kelantan with a history of diabetes and high blood pressure, while the youngest was a 27-year-old man in Kuala Lumpur with a history of diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity; and a 31-year-old man in Johor with no history of illness.

There are 83,331 active cases nationwide, with 508,947 people recovering from the virus. – June 3, 2021.
