ONLY two people from the same household will be allowed to travel in the same car to purchase daily necessities during phase one of the total lockdown, said Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The senior minister said travel will be restricted to a 10km radius from their residence.

He said an exception will be made for those require health and medical attention.

“We only allow two people from the same household to buy basic necessities, except for things involving health and medical services, etc.

“And their movement must not exceed 10km,” the defence minister said at a joint press conference with the health director-general in Putrajaya today.

Ismail Sabri said these are not new restrictions but they are almost similar to those imposed during the first movement-control order last year.

For medical-related matters, three people, including the driver are allowed to travel in a car.

For vaccination, a person must provide proof of the appointment in order to pass the 10km travel radius limit.

Apart from this, e-hailing and cab services are allowed, limited to two in a car, including the driver.

Ismail Sabri said exemption for elected representatives remains, as they would need to carry out voluntary works in their constituencies, such as providing food and basic necessities to the people.

He said they too must abide by the standard operating procedure.

Meanwhile, police permission must be obtained for those who wish to travel for matters related to deaths or natural disasters.

Ismail Sabri said police could grant exemption to those who need to travel in cases of emergency.

He, however, said that police have become very cautious and strict lately due to many ingenuine claims of people having to travel due to emergencies.

Ismail Sabri urged those seeking police permission to travel due to emergencies to be truthful with their reasons when applying.

“The police are careful now when releasing such permission on grounds of emergency.

“So, I hope we can really be honest with the police when making the application.

“We can cheat the police but we can’t cheat Covid-19, which is out there,” he said. – May 30, 2021.
