ALL manufacturing, if not related to essential services, will be barred under the total lockdown that begins on Tuesday, said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
According to Ismail Sabri, said the products and services that will be permitted to operate are food production, health services (including veterinary services), water, energy, security, waste disposal, transport, communications (including media), credit (pawn shops), information technology, distribution, hotel services (for quarantine and isolation, not tourism), forestry (enforcement only) and logistics for delivery of essential services.
“All manufacturing will be barred unless it is for aerospace, food, printing and packaging for essential items, and cleaning products. All others will be closed,” said Ismail Sabri during a press conference today.
“The manufacturing services that are allowed to be open will be subject to a 60% limit for staffing on the premises,” he added.
He said that all shopping malls will be closed other than for supermarkets.
Manufacturing that is permitted include: manufacturing of personal protection equipment (PPE), medical equipment, oil and gas products, and textile products for the purpose of PPE production.
The electrical and electronics sector is to continue, so it can serve the global supply chain.
Ismail Sabri said that all shopping malls will be closed other than the supermarket section.
“Only supermarket and departmental stores that have food sections, and stores that sell basic necessities, pharmacies, mini marts and restaurants that serve takeaways will be allowed to open in the shopping malls,” said Ismail Sabri.
Other businesses that will be allowed to operate are self-service laundries, petrol stations, pet shops, optical shops, hardware shops and vehicle servicing shops.
“However, these businesses can only operate between 8am and 8pm,” said Ismail Sabri.
Exemptions are in place for morning markets – which will only be allowed to operate from 6am to 2pm – farmer’s markets (6am till 4pm), wholesale markets (12am to 6am and 11am to 4pm) and petrol stations (6am to 8pm for those not on highways).
Other new SOP under the total lockdown include:
- Day care centres and kindergartens at private and international schools, for children age four to six years old, will not be allowed to operate unless both parents are both front-liners.
- Solat prayers at mosques and suraus will be limited to committee members only. No other activities are allowed.
- Muslim marriages can only be conducted at Islamic Religious Department offices.
- Worship at non-Muslim religious centres is limited to 12 committee members only.
- Jogging and individual exercises are allowed in open areas with a minimum social distance of 2m. – May 30, 2021.
