SEVERAL areas in four states will be put under the enhanced movement-control order (EMCO) from May 29 to June 11 following an increase in Covid-19 cases, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The areas are Sitiawan, Seri Manjung and Ayer Tawar in Perak where 135 cases were detected in Sitiawan alone between May 10 and 23, he said.
Also to be placed under EMCO are Bandar Triang, Pekan Kemayan and Gugusan Mendi in Pahang.
Ismail said 76 positive cases were recorded from 1,258 tests in those areas.
In Terengganu, the affected areas are Kuala Berang and Hulu Terengganu, where health officials detected 37 cases from 213 screenings done.
“The infectivity rate in these areas is high and cases have spread elsewhere,” he said.
“Meanwhile, in Sabah we imposed EMCO at Kg Baru Durok, Keningau and at Kg Mook, Kinarut, Papar.
“In Kg Baru Durok, 28 cases were detected from 158 tests done.”
Malaysia today recorded 7,857 new Covid-19 cases, surpassing its highest count of 7,478 yesterday, bringing the cumulative number of cases to 541,224.
This is the third consecutive day the daily tally has passed the 7,000 mark. – May 27, 2021.
