MALAYSIA will receive an additional delivery of vaccines from Pfizer, Sinovac and AstraZeneca in the coming months to speed up the national immunisation programme, said National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Co-ordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

“On May 21, Health Minister Dr Adham Baba signed a deal for the delivery of 12.8 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine.

“This means we have 44.8 million doses of Pfizer, which is enough to cover 70% of the population,” he said at a press conference today.

He added that 25 million doses of the vaccine will be delivered in the third quarter of the year.

Khairy – who is also minister of science, technology and innovation – said the country will also receive 12 million doses of Sinovac vaccine by the end of July.

“We will receive 6.9 million Sinovac vaccine doses from Beijing and the rest will be fulfilled by Pharmaniaga through its fill and finish production here.”

Khairy said Malaysia will receive 610,000 AstraZeneca doses in June and 410,000 doses in July.

This will be coming from the company’s facility in Thailand and is still subject to approval from the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA).

“With the additional vaccine delivery, we project that we will be able to administer 150,000 doses a day in June. This will involve setting up more vaccination centres (PPV) all over the country.

“There is enough vaccine, and will speed up the vaccination programme,” Khairy added. – May 21, 2021.
