THERE were 40 religious clusters that sprung up during the Ramadan month due to the increase in inter-state and inter-district travel, said Dr Adham Baba.

The health minister said the clusters were detected in Johor (19), Selangor (13) and the eight others in Malacca, Negri Sembilan and Kelantan.

“If there is less movement, there will be fewer chances of the virus spreading,” said Adham during his joint press conference with National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin today.

He said the new infections that happened during the Ramadan month and Raya celebrations were coming in now.

The minister was commenting on the importance of adhering to the government’s standard operating procedures (SOP) to stem the number of new Covid-19 infections.

Malaysia reported its highest number of new infections today with 7,289 new cases.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement that the national caseload now stands at 525,889.

This is the first time the daily tally has passed the 7,000-mark.

Selangor led the tally with 2,642 cases, followed by Johor and Kuala Lumpur with 664 and 604 cases respectively.

“We will know in two weeks’ time whether the self-lockdown can bring down the number of cases and we will decide on what to do on June 7,” said Dr Adham. – May 25, 2021.
